Power: reliable, clean, and simple.

FlexEnergy Receives Large Repeat Order for Combined Heat & Power Solution from Leading Manufacturer

  • Leading manufacturer in California expands deployment of Flex Turbine® units as foundation of Smart Grid application
  • Combined capacity of units equals to 4.3 Megawatts of power

PORTSMOUTH, NH (April 30, 2019) – FlexEnergy Inc. today announced that it received a significant repeat order from an existing customer for multiple Flex Turbine units. The customer, a leading manufacturer in California, purchased multiple Flex Turbine units capable of generating a combined 4.3 Megawatts (MW) of power. The order consists of one GT333S unit and three GT1300S units.

The Flex Turbines will provide baseload to Smart Grid systems at three of the customer’s facilities. The customer is growing rapidly and FlexEnergy will help it reduce operating costs with combined heat and power (CHP) solutions.

The customer first selected FlexEnergy in 2016 for a pilot CHP project involving three FlexEnergy GT333S turbines with integrated waste heat recovery modules working with an absorption chiller provide power and cooling for one of the customer’s manufacturing facilities in California. The facility cut its carbon footprint, improved sustainability and saved money by choosing FlexEnergy’s California Air Resources Board (CARB) certified GT333S low emission, low sound, compact and highly reliable synchronous generation technology.  Since deployment, the Flex Turbines in the pilot have accumulated an impressive track record of over two years of continuous runtime service while providing up to 85% total efficiency.  The customer will add a fourth turbine and battery storage component to this pilot installation for a combined Smart Grid total output of 1.3MW.

The customer is also expanding its use of FlexEnergy solutions to support its growth with the purchase of three additional 1.3MW, GT1300S Flex Turbines to provide a Smart Grid power solution for two additional facilities.  The Smart Grid, in conjunction with the ultra-reliable Flex Turbines, will provide energy security for the customer’s facility operations through grid outages, avoiding costly delays in production due to shutdowns and plant restarts.

During the day, the Flex Turbines will provide clean, high quality and reliable power to the facility. The turbines will be fueled by low pressure natural gas, using FlexEnergy’s integral fuel booster, which can run on gas pressures as low as 4” WC (0.144 psi).  During the night, when production activity is low, excess power generated from the Flex Turbines will be diverted to battery storage for use during active daylight hours when production peaks and power demand is greatest.  At each location, one turbine will provide redundancy to the Smart Grid system.

Mark Schnepel, President of FlexEnergy said, “Smart Grid systems are the future of Combined Heat and Power projects and the Flex Turbine has proven a reliable, cost-competitive baseload component of these systems.  With this repeat order, the customer will have a total of 5.3MW of CARB certified Flex Turbines operating at three facilities, providing energy stability and the opportunity for further expansion.  We are pleased to partner with this customer to help power their growth in California.”
