FlexEnergy Receives Repeat Order for an Externally Fired GT333 Turbine and High Temperature Heat Exchanger Solution from Australian Energy Storage Company

  • Repeat order to expand clean and reliable electric power solution with Flex Turbine and high temperature heat exchanger
  • Custom made FlexEnergy enhanced fin-tube heat exchanger capable of operating continuously at extremely high temperatures.
  • Flex GT333EX and heat exchanger will integrate with company systems to provide reliable electricity and heat energy on demand

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (February 19, 2019) – FlexEnergy Inc. today announced that it has been chosen by 1414 Degrees, an innovative Australian energy storage company, to provide a second Flex Turbine® and custom compact fin-tube high temperature heat exchanger for integration with 1414 Degrees thermal energy storage solutions.

Flex Turbine GT333The first Flex Turbine and heat exchanger purchased by the customer approximately one year ago helped successfully prove the company’s innovative molten silicon energy storage concept and has since been installed at SA Water’s Glenelg Waste Water Treatment plant.

Dr Kevin Moriarty, Executive Chairman of 1414 Degrees, said mobilising the Biogas Thermal Energy Storage System (“GAS-TESS”) was an important step in demonstrating the technology’s ability. “We expect to commission the GAS-TESS in March 2019 and provide immediate returns for SA Water, while at the same time building a foundation for the wider application of the 1414 Degrees technology at similar sites across the globe,” said Dr Moriarty.

Mark Schnepel, President of FlexEnergy , explained that “The custom high temperature fin-tube heat exchanger will transfer high temperature heat from the 1414 Degrees energy storage system to the Flex Turbine®, which will generate power.  The FlexEnergy heat exchanger can operate continuously at extremely high temperatures and uses state-of-the-art materials for long service life”.

He continued, “Externally fired turbines are a growing part of our core business and the ultra-reliable Flex Turbine provides the perfect foundation for our customers to integrate with their systems.  FlexEnergy is also the first company in the turbine industry to offer separate high temperature heat exchangers, designed with the customer to work seamlessly with the customer’s equipment and the Flex Turbine.  This repeat order speaks to the value of our solutions and their ability to provide a single source for two of our customer’s most challenging problems.”
