Breaking the Low Btu Barrier

The Flex-Microturbine power plant runs on very low energy fuel gases: only 15 Btus per cubic foot (1.5% the strength of natural gas). Such gas is even too weak to flare. The same system will also run just as easily on 2,000 Btu or higher gas. Moreover, the gas is accepted at atmospheric pressure! No messy gas compressors needed!

A New Green Market

The Flex is the low Btu king. It opens up a unique new market. No other power plant can run on 15 Btu gas (most need at least 350 Btu). Potential fuels include oilfield, industrial and landfill waste gases. In many cases, these gases must otherwise be flared consuming natural gas or propane. The Flex needs no other fuel. Even high Btu fuels are not a problem!

A Flex-Microturbine is installed at an oilfield near Santa Barbara, California, and runs on gas with 15 to 42 Btus per cubic foot (1.5 to 4% the strength of natural gas). This gas currently goes to a thermal oxidizer, which consumes 200,000 cubic feet of natural gas/day to destroy the low Btu gas. Another Flex is installed at the Western Research Institute (Laramie, Wy) to run on waste gas from a coal process.

Ultra-Low Emissions!

The Flex has extremely low NOx emissions, well below 1.0 PPM. Testing was performed by Univ of California, Riverside. The reason for ultra-low NOx is the unique oxidation system keeps temperatures well below NOx formation thresholds.
