Flex Leasing Power and Service Secures Expansion of Field Power Solution in the Permian Basin for a Supermajor E&P

  • Ongoing oil and gas development created need for additional field power
  • Reliability, low emissions, safety and fuel tolerance key factors in decision process
  • Additional GT333S units will provide 2.3 Megawatts of power for saltwater disposal facilities

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. , Dec. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Flex Leasing Power and Service, the leader in reliable and clean field power solutions for the oil and gas industry, today announced that a major integrated E&P operator has awarded Flex an expansion of its existing field power solution using patented Flex Turbine technology. The solution will provide power for the Operator’s growing production operations in the Delaware Basin area of the larger Permian Basin region, an area of active oil and gas development.

The Flex Turbine uses proprietary technology and design to generate electric power from any natural gas source, including wellhead gas and tank vapors, and successfully operates on wet rich gas, lean gas and even gas containing Hydrogen Sulfide. The Flex Turbine’s wide fuel tolerance, modularity, reliability and on-site flexibility make it uniquely suited for oil and gas operations.

As previously announced, the Operator and Flex were in discussions to provide an additional 1.5 Megawatts of power for the Customer’s growing saltwater disposal and central tank facilities in the Permian Basin. In those discussions, the Operator identified a power requirement of 2.3 Megawatts and expanded the order to seven total GT333S Flex Turbine units, up from five. This will be the second site to be powered by a Flex solution.

Prior to the first site installation, the Operator’s Technical Authority team subjected the Flex Turbine and solution designed by Flex Leasing Power and Service to a rigorous technical review.  The review process focused on reliability, maintenance needs, safety, fuel tolerance, emissions and quality of power. The Operator also performed an exacting hazardous operation review, in which Flex exceeded expectations. At the end of the technical review, Flex was accepted as an approved provider of field power solutions to the Operators’ North American onshore and offshore operations.

The units will be leased by the Operator to avoid up-front capital expenditures and allow the Customer to allocate more capital to drilling and completion activities instead of power infrastructure.

Doug Baltzer, President of Flex Leasing Power and Service, said: “Expanding our relationship with a global supermajor demonstrates the durability and effectiveness of the Flex Turbine and our ability to provide responsive service. Being thoroughly vetted by some of the most demanding technical minds in the industry shows that Flex is capable of designing, delivering, operating and servicing field power solutions for demanding E&P customers with operations in harsh environments.

“Reliability, emissions and safety were key factors in the selection and approval of our solution. Our fleet of over 200 Flex Turbine units is powering oilfield operations in North America with a track record of more than 2.5 million continuous hours of operations.”
